It may be hard to believe, but Spring is indeed upon us in Richmond (I’m sure global warming has nothing to do with it). One film that i enjoyed as a child is Bambi. When Spring arrived in the film, the little forest critters became “twitterpated” (a.k.a. in heat) and started lookin’ for love. I’ve got two bunnies that I’ve named Frick and Frack that hang out frequently in my back yard. They arrived before Winter started and have been hanging out ever since. I’m hoping that this Spring will show me and the neighbors what genders the bunnies are. I’m pulling for little Frickletts and Frackletts to be born and amuse me all summer.

Panting and Crowning

I made this mix for my cat, Juna. She's 18 years old and suffering through renal failure. As a result, it's hard for her to process fluids and tends to get a bit dehydrated. I found her one morning laying on her side panting on the living room floor. She then lifted her leg a little bit and I saw that her brown star was about 5 times the size it normally was!! It looked like her rectum was about to explode! The panting continued and she ended up pinching a loaf that was about as big (and as hard) as her head! I felt like she needed a little encouragement and inspiration should it happen again... and yes, it's happened many times since. Because of her condition, the poor thing has to get zipped into a sack/straight jacket so I can pump subcutaneous fluids into her.

This one's for you, Juna!

UPDATE: Sadly, on February 12, 2009 Juna was euthanized.

The title comes from a story I saw on the news. A preist (I don't remember where he was from) tried to break the world record for being suspended in the air by helium baloons in a lawn chair. I'm sad to say that only the chair had been found. I'll be saving a prayer for you, wherever you are, Padre!

Winter Soulstice 2007 (Fallen Through)

I've done the Soulstice mixes for quite a while, but have only posted the last couple. Winter Soulstice is always full of slow jams, often pretty depressing with the best hope of a bleak ending, at best. Imagine yourself losing the love of your life and out in the cold, in the darkness of the longest night of the year. Using the sidewalk as a pillow, bundling up as tightly as you can and praying for daylight to finally arrive.
